Furry alligator puppies, runaway socks, musical skeletons and flying ships are just a few of the wonders you’ll encounter in Sara Lovell’s fanciful world of songs for children and families. With her album “You’ve Got Me,” it is apparent that Sara is not so much singing to children as she is reporting back from a magical landscape she inhabits and loves. Whether she is vividly painting an alternate universe or simply describing everyday moments in life, Sara's authenticity never talks down to children, instead, it invites both kids and their parents to dream and play along with her. The lyrics move easily between whimsical and matter-of-fact, and are set to music that is at once sophisticated and immediately accessible.

lyrics

The Skeleton Band

When the sun has set and the spooky night is falling
You hear a lonely animal howling at the moon
After you're in bed and all your dreams are calling
Out there in the darkness you can hear a little tune

Your heart is beating fast, your eyes are getting wider
Your hands and feet are tingling, it’s hard to catch your breath
You creep into the night, one foot then the other
Careful not to make a sound you take another step

Then they blew the horn and beat the drum
And on the small guitar they strummed
They rattled, oh they rattled
As they danced the night away
They shook those skinny bones again
And played another song - amen
With instruments in hand
You hear the skeleton band

You take a closer look as you peer into the clearing
What you see before you, your eyes cannot believe
All around the fire, the players in a circle
Banded here together on this fateful winter’s eve

Spiders in their webs, casting creepy shadows
Bats are flying overhead though you remain unseen
Watching all the while these spindly musicians
Crows are cawing out as someone shakes a tambourine

And they blew the horn and beat the drum
And on the small guitar they strummed
They rattled oh they rattled
As they danced the night away
They shook those skinny bones again
And played another song - amen
With instruments in hand
You hear the skeleton band

And the violins played
For this midnight serenade
And the bones and branches swayed
In this moonlight escapade

When the moon is full and the night is almost over
Shifting in your bed, morning’s coming soon
Still within your dreams, underneath the covers
Out there in the darkness you can hear a little tune

Sara Lovell's third children’s music album in less than four years, Night Life, celebrates the hours leading to bedtime and the magical worlds we enter when we finally fall sleep. As with her last two award winning albums, the new release moves beautifully between diverse musical genres – at moments riotous and full of unrestrained joy, at other moments tender, introspective and melodic. ... more
